Day 6: Singing and Dancing

Today we met with the Village Health Workers. They LOVE to sing! As soon as we came into sight they burst into song. My aunt had once asked them if they kept the same parts, such as soprano or alto, but they just said that they listen to the music and sing whatever part they think is missing, which is quite amazing, I think. They also love to dance as you can see in these pictures.

Day 5: Visiting my aunt's project

We traveled from the city of Harare to central Zimbabwe to visit my aunt's health project, called SHINE (Sanitation Hygiene Infant Nutrition Efficacy). The purpose of the project is to improve babies' health by making their environment more hygenic.  The first three photos are of latrine bases where they were created, as well as many bricks. The next three pictures are of the house of one of the family's participating in SHINE. In the second picture you can see the mud shelves built into the house. These are very popular and are mainly used for displaying their dishes, which they are very proud of.  The last photo is of a fully built latrine, installed on this household's property.

Day 4: Sunday morning

We have arrived at my Aunt and Uncle's house in Harare! I woke up this morning to birds singing, blue skies, and this beautiful backyard and pool.

Day 3: Happy Birthday to my brother Daniel from Zimbabwe

My cousin Sarah and I baked a birthday cake!

Day 2: Breakfast in Nairobi, Kenya

We arrived in Kenya late on Thursday and spent the night at the home of our friend Elizabeth. We had a wonderful morning in Nairobi before returning to the airport to fly to Harare, Zimbabwe.
